Keep It Indie – Baba Shrimps & Six60 in Lyss

So no new guitare player for Baba Shrimps or just for a day. This stranger on the “Keep It Indie” facebook photo stroke, I didn’t even see the new neon writing of the Babas. Ooops. But they looked good, there on the Kufa stage. But unfortunately they had some technical problems and as soon as everything worked, the neon writing wouldn’t anymore. But everything will be fine.

Friday was a good day. Even very good. Well, at least from the moment, when I left the office. Al Pride had finally released their new video for “Waterfalls”. With all the remixes that came ahead, I couldn’t do anything with, but this animation video is incredibly beautiful. Really creative, really Al Pride. Great! Blue sky, sun was shinging, Starbucks Latte Macchiatto and on the way to Kufa Lyss. The anticipation for Baba Shrimps was big for days and since the lunch time showcase at Radio24 the day before more than ever.

I made sure to be at the Keep It Indie concert before doors opened. Is a concert series by the way, where many great bands already played. You should go there once, if you don’t have other plans. Or again, of course. So I was there later, not that I was again the only guest next to all the band members and crew like last time. Not that it was a big problem (Kufa got some great staff), but well… it was almost 8.20 pm and the concert should start at 9 pm – I wasn’t exactly the first and only one, but only a few were there. Well, that did lead to chats with the merchandise sellers and with the guys from New Zealand it was entertaining. And informativ. I never heard about the group Six60. You think, in New Zealand, their home, they play in front of 4000 – 5000 people – here in Switzerland at the small Kufa club. Except of this they just came from their Germany tour, where they played 18 shows. Their song “Forever” is probably known to movie fans, because this song is on the soundtrack for the German movie “Vaterfreuden” with Matthias Schweighöfer. Well, me, who’s so often at the cinema…

Well, of course Baba Shrimps played first. I was wondering how much time this new guitare player (I think he’s called Martin) had, to learn to play everything. And I was wondering, how much time anyone would need to learn all the songs as a temp? However, the performance was short. But great. The audience didn’t know the band very well yet, but some came just for Baba Shrimps, who even sang along. There were many who had loved to hear more next to “Trouble”, “Pride & Tears”, “Europe”, “Back To Where The Light Is”, “All The Citylights” and “I Don’t Wanna Hide”. Great beats and melodies, folky, pop, intoxicating. The synthies. The lyrics. However the shoutings for more continued…

Six60 played after Baba Shrimps then. It of course took a moment to chanage the stage. Their music is described as roots rock with soul and dubstep elements. However, their songs and show are incredibly dynamic and many sided. I got surprised more than once – goovy sounds, from quite to very loud and wild. With crazy drums solos. And how they were running and jumping over the stage – it was amazing! I immediately bought their album and had even enough time to let it sign, before I had to catch my train. In the meantime I’ve listened to the album. I like it, but live was better, a lot better, I got to say.

The last band, Kyasma, I missed so then. But originally I was only there for Baba Shrimps. Of course in the hope I’d like the others too. Now I am looking forward to the Vorstadtsounds at the end of the month. It’s just so much fun. Can’t even describe it with words.
