Marco Balzli at BEA

Actually I am not really interested into BEA, only, if musicians I like are performing, I am off into the turmoil as well – Marco Balzli played on Sunday, the last day of BEA, 4 sets.

You may think I am used to big crowds. But at some point I was slightly annoyed then. Here someone is treating your feet, there another one is stopping abruptly in front of you, and there you are hustled and all the people are crisscrossing through the halls and over the squares. At “normal” concerts everyone is at least standing in front of the stage. At Festhalle (Hall 4.1) this stage was standign in the middle of the hall with a piano of Krompholz on it and I heard some folksy blaring. Nothing for me. Well, at least there was chocolate, cookies, cheese and saussages for tasting. Well, a bit weird combination, but yummie. And in the other hall there you even got free Starbucks coffee from Selecta. It was funny to see, how some people surrounded the stage towards 12.30 pm already and watched the soundcheck, waited that Marco and his two band members started their set. Next to me a little boy kept whining: “when will it start?” and the mother was even more whining with the father “it could still take hours!”. What? Hours? I doubt. I was opening my mouth already, but didn’t say anything then. They started only 2-3 minutes later anyway. And as soon as he was playing, more BEA visitors kept stopping and listening. During the first two sets, once here and once in the other hall (3.2) you could actually see the rather bad organisation. The technician couldn’t be found anywhere and one got to improvise.  But it worked out then for the two other sets, once more in the same halls, the technician was there then. Quite a stop-go to switch between the halls. Seemed quite stressful.

Well, not for me. For me it was a nice, relaxing afternoon. With the tastings, nice fish and burger for lunch and dinner, and of course super music. Next to his own songs like “Marlene” Marco played some covers like “Get Lucky” by Daftpunk, “Happy” by Pharell Williams or “Best of You” by Foo Fighters. Brilliant! Small slips and fits of laughs inbetween, when suddendly Swiss Milk cows came “lumbring” – cow baloons with little paper legs. “Excuse me. Who’s this?”, I got ask eventually. “Marco Balzli. He’s from Bern and he took part at The Voice of Switzerland”, I could inform this gent. When he was beaming and did reckon that he immediately recognized this voice. He used to watch The voice. And inbetween they played an extra serenade with the technician on the piano. Well, what do you want more?! Until autumn there’s now a concert break, but after I recommend you’ll go and listen to Marco Balzli.

The rest of the day I let pass at the Swisscom Giga wave. I don’t like sports much generally, but I loved the surf contest , 1st Swiss wavepool jam, and hardley could get away from it.
