Eskimo at Mokka Garten

Juhui, afterwork hours and once again off to a concert at the old home town! When I got off the train in Thun, the platform was wet, the sky rather dark and overcast. But the sea of clouds was already clearing again. Perfect! The forecasted thunderstorm seemed to have passed. So nothing stood in the way of the evening concert with Eskimo at Mokka garden.

No, it wasn’t my first concert after the lockdown, but it felt like it. It was so emotional to be back at Mokka. It’s been a year since I was last there. At the end of June 2020 it was the first concert after lockdown, when The Two Romans celebrated the release of their debut album “Everything. Now” (read here). Almost a year has passed since the last Eskimo concert (Eskimo at Bierhübeli Garden). Speaking of Bierhübeli, Eskimo will be playing there again on July 10th.

Mokka garden, as colorful as ever, has been given a huge awning. Delicious food and cool drinks were available plentiful on this Friday evening. For example, Thunersee whitefish with french fries and homemade ketchup and mayo were on the menu, as well as various veggie and vegan dishes. Many known faces could be spotted in the audience and from 8:30 p.m. we got dialect stories in the form of live music.

Bernese dialect band Eskimo resumed their tour, which was interrupted by Corona, on this Friday evening and continued to tell the story of “Hans”. How Hans copes with his single life, how he gets together with “Olivia” and then separates again. Eskimo also talked about dreams and how life passes by.

The melodies, embellished with trumpet and guitar solos, verbose and detailed lyrics in the most beautiful Bernese dialect, performed by the warm voice of the singer, created a wonderfully pleasant atmosphere. The audience listened attentively to the five-piece band and just seemed happy and satisfied to be able to attend this concert. For one evening you felt a little closer to normal. The still emerging wind as well as the one or other raindrop could not harm the musical evening.

It was just soul balm par excellence!
