If I google “Fêtes de la Musique”, I get to know on Wikipedia, that the “fest of music” always takes places on 21st June, the day summer beginns, and meanwhile 340 towns take part in it worldwide. Amateur and professional musicians are performing, musical performers, DJs etc. performe free of charge in public areas and admission for the events is for free. This year performed e.g. Atlu Bubble & The Dead Animal Gang in Fribourg or Al Pride in Lausanne. There was also an event in Geneva. And Daliah in Thun.
I wasn’t that thrilled and overwhelmed by this event though. I also thought it would be bigger, more celebratory. It took place on Waisenhausplatz in Thun and was very small. Sadly there wasn’t a very big audience and if Daliah wouldn’t have perofrmed, I wouldn’t have gone there. Musically the programme was quite uninteresting to me otherwise. At 3.50 pm they started their soundcheck and after their bass player has appeared, they could start their short set. But it was really nice to enjoy the summer in the sun, eating ice cream and listening to them. They had to go to Bern straight after the concert, where they played another show on that evening. But they quickly told me about their performance in France, Versailles, on upcoming 8th July and that they didn’t have any cds with, because they were all brought there already. So they didn’t think about packing others. Well, that can happen. Must be something very special, if they set up so early in France.
Have you bee nto any “Fête de la musique” event too? I did totally miss out on the news about Al Pride performance in Lausanne, otherwise I might have gone there. But it was good to stay at home for an evening, even I keep getting nervous and squirrely then 😉
