This Friday Bernese Band Halunke, bringing their new EP “Easy” with them, played a free concert at shopping centre Westside in Bern-Brünnen. On the occasion of the “Friday Night Specials” every last Friday of the month such an event takes place. Whew, I hadn’t been there for a concert in ages, or hadn’t been there at all. My expectations weren’t that high, after all it took place in a shopping centre. But I got positively surprised.
The band was a bit worried because of the sound. The food court of Westside, where the stage was standing in the middle, isn’t actually made for concerts – not for loud ones anyway. But the 7 member band (bass player, wind section, drummer, keyboard player, guitare player and front guy) just played a bit quieter – what did not spoil the mood though. But yes, why should it have to. Their catchy dialect pop songs, that you can easily sing along to, what melodies and rhythms make you dance, are simply fun. “Nid ohni di”, “Musig”, “Gar key Zyt” or “Me Meer” – just to mention a few. Of these the one or other keeps getting stuck in your ears.
At the beginning the audience was still rather reserved and let me stand in front of the stage all by myself, but finally they let them lure quickly to the front. Esp. the kids were pretty brave and two of them even jumped on stage to the band during the newest single “Schiffsbruch”. Front guy Christian Häni had to be supported, after all Büne Huber, front guy of Patent Ochsner, who would sing in duo, was just on holidays. The midgets showed to the adults how to go and sing along. With so much cuteness everyone of course was totally charmed and the parents super proud.
“Easy”, from the same named new EP was the “toilet song” by the way. You could quickly missunderstand “Easy” as “Bissi” (pee), what wasn’t that bad in the end. As Baschi got something with “Glace” as well (yes, thanks to SRF3 everyone understands now with Baschi’s “90 Gramm Glück” Glace (ice cream) instead of Glas (glass). You’ve got to listen). With “Pinocchio” and “Boulevard” everything became then a little louder and wilder after all. And the “Affenbande” properly ran riot in the food court again. It was a really good atmosphere. A real “easy” evening so, that the band ended with a signing.
Who’d like Halunke a bit louder now or who’d like to see them (again), best comes to see their EP release in Köniz on 04/03/2016 or get themselves informed on www.halunkeonline.ch about suiting dates.
On 26/02/2016 the “Friday Night Specials” take place with Damian Lynn. Infos here.
