It’s newmusicfriday – my favorite day. Unfortunately, I had little time and muse to continue this blog series last year. In doing so, I love to share with you what I discover and love to listen to. And now that the spring awakes and also the musicians bring it to us with new songs in various ways, I try to bring the series back again.
So here you’ll find five of my favorite releases this week.
Ed Sheeran – Eyes Closed (Single)
Ed Sheeran releases with “Eyes Closed” the first single of his upcoming album “-” (pronounced “subtract”, release date: 05.05.2023). The last album in his Mathematics series is said to be a bit more raw and personal than the last ones. Originally, Ed had the album ready for release when life intervened with some serious setbacks. He discarded the album and wrote a new one from scratch. If you want to know more, read the Rolling Stones magazine interview.
Ed Sheeran now brings a first taste with the touching uptempo ballad “Eyes Closed”. A song about the grief and pain of losing a loved one.

The Two Romans – Don’t wanna win (Single)
After the release of their debut album “Everything. Now!” in 2020, The Two Romans finally report back from the studio with a new infectious pop song. In “Don’t wanna win”, the two brothers with Italian roots deal with finding the balance between fighting for one’s own rights and needs, but also standing back sometimes.
Once again Mattia and Samuele bring a lot of positivity and cheerfulness despite the serious theme. Love love love it! Make sure to have a listen!

Pat Burgener – PAT The Album (Album)
You’ve probably heard of Pat Burgener from Lausanne. Whether that’s through the sport of snowboarding, through which he took 5th place at the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea, or through music. He discovered music for himself during a forced break due to injury.
Besides the successful sports career, he has already released two EPs “Califorina Sun” (2021) and “First Wave” (2022). Now follows the debut album “PAT – The Album” of the singer-songwriter. It is mainly an infectious good mood album that comes with a beautiful lightness. Even when he sings about being at his lowest point, he brings a lot of positive vibes. With the mix of delicate ukulele sounds, powerful brass instruments and refreshing beats, Pat also catapults you straight into summer with the album.
I find the album beautiful and so pleasant to listen to. So make sure to have a listen too.

Roo Panes – The Summer Isles (Album)
British folk singer-songwriter Roo Panes landed in my Spotify library more by accident, I guess. Simply by letting Spotify sometimes run and letting the streaming service decide itself what to play to me. Roo Pane’s voice, the melodies of his songs, are soft, touching and simply soothing. So I’m always very happy when new songs pop up in my playlist – and today even the brand new album “The Summer Isles”.
If you feel like diving in and relaxing, be sure to listen.

Tom Speight – Let Go (Single)
With the brand new track “Let Go”, London-based singer/songwriter Tom Speight announces his new third album “Love & Light” for 11th August 2023. The song is one of 12 very personal tracks and is about getting over someone. Since seeing Tom Speight as a support act for Seafreat in 2016, I’ve always enjoyed his beautiful, melodic songs.
For the video to”Let Go” he called on his fans to join in.
