It was a long and rocky road to Langenthal. Not in terms of the number of kilometers, but the length of time. After almost 18 months, Patent Ochsner arrived finally on stage in Langenthal with their current album “Cut Up”, which was released in 2019. At Westhalle and not at the Old Capitol as originally planned, but the long wait was worth it. It’s great to finally have the Bernese dialect band in town for four shows on September 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2021. It was a fest through and through!
All good things are four
Patent Ochsner actually wanted to play the shows at Old Capitol in March 2020. But by then we were already in the middle of lockdown, the pandemic was fully on. But after three times postponed, on the fourth attempt, it finally worked out. I was even able to attend three of the four shows.
Some fans stood and sat in front of the stage for ages before the start of the show in order to secure the best place for themselves, close to their dialect heroes. Although the setlist was always the same, every evening was different and special. The band members stood in front of their audience, happy and beaming all over their faces every evening. They gave their best every time in the group, but also during their individual solos.
Love is love
Front man Büne Huber kept telling is stories to the songs a little differently, always with new details. And it was precisely these details that made it. Especially when the Bernese dialect musician and artist appealed to the audience to be kind to each other in this difficult pandemic time and to accept and endure that there are also other opinions! Also reminded that love is love and made a clear statement for the upcoming “marriage for everyone” votings.
The audience sang along, sometimes louder, sometimes quieter – especially word for word with all the radio hits. Whereby, which of their songs is not a hit? Because even I, who admittedly doesn’t know every single Patent Ochsner song, had heard most of them before. By the way, my absolute favorite during these three concert evenings became “Dr Zug (fahrt us dr Stadt)”, from the new album. How beautiful is this song?!
Balm for the soul
All four shows were exciting, beneficial and absolutely balm for the soul. With great sound and a great light show. And they want to find out as soon as possible whether Patent Ochsner, as a ten-member band, even fits on the Old Capitol stage.
