Ok, to be exact, the Zurich singer Rita Roof starts with “Odysee” a little calmer and more thoughtful, before Dodo comes along. Today the musician wears a light blue suit with a lightbulb print (at least it looks like it). The neon yellow socks immediately catch the eye. The odyssey he tells about in his first song will soon come to its definitive end. After the pandemic thwarted Dodo’s travel plans, he finally traveled over the Swiss passes instead through Africa and thus recorded his 6th studio album “Pass” (maybe you have seen the SRF Doku about it?), everything will be fine soon.
Back To The Roots
The reggae beats puts you straight into a good mood. Don’t stop doing what you love, Dodo sings. Together with his band, he not only celebrates today’s concert evening, but also the next milestone in his big plan, which he has almost reached: the crowdfunding for the “back to the roots” African trip that feels like he’s planned forever, is almost complete. The goal should be reached the very next day and the crowdfunding will be completed, says Dodo excitedly.
So after 3 years it’s still going to Africa. Dodo will play his last “pass” concert, the farewell concert, on 17th September 2022 at the Rheinhafen in Basel. From there he finally goes to the black continent with his mobile ship-container studio. Dodo wants to go back to his birthplace. He wants to go back to the place where he spent the first 6 years of his life, back to his roots. His adventure is even supposed to be made into a movie.
With positive thoughts through life
But first back to Aarberg: A “door opens” where one previously closed. You can achieve your goals with positive thoughts, which is what he wants to convey to the festival visitors in Aarberg today. Dodo always keeps the audience moving. Be it waving hands, rocking along to the beats or shaking backs to his Tashan cover (from “Sing mein Song”) “Fudi”. The ex Reamonn frontman is overjoyed to finally be back on stage. Feeling really free again while touring and performing. Finally he can carry his current album “Hy Brasil”, which he released in December 2020, out into the world.
Be brave and trust
The intro is about war. You suddenly hear war sirens. You get goosebumps when Rea Garvey starts with “War”. A warning, a reminder of what is happening in this world. Followed by “Is it love?” and lots of love for the next 90 minutes.
With “Talk To Your Body” and “Hey Hey Hey” there are the first songs from the new album “Hy Brasil”: An album with a call for more courage and trust. Giving up is never an option for Rea Garvey. A short break before the final sprint of the second festival day begins with 77 Bombay Street. The Grisons brothers are welcomed with a sea of lights. Their set starts out a bit quieter with “Follow The Rain” and then builds up quickly. At the end of the day, the four heat up the audience again. Make the festival visitors jump and dance, like crouching and jumping to “Bombay.” A few stretching exercises with bassist Simri during the show are not wrong so.

Already after the first songs, some of the audience loudly asked for the 77 Bombay Street hit “Up in the sky”. Frontman Matt laughs. “Yes, but if we’re going to play it now, everyone will go home right away?!” We may wait another half hour.
In the past few years, anyone who wanted to hear new music or see shows from 77 Bombay Street had to be patient. It feels like forever since I saw all four of 77 Bombay Street on stage. Matt and Esra in particular have often been on the road as a duo in recent months. First the band took a break of several years and then the pandemic intervened.
Comeback and restart
But now 77 Bombay Street are back again and this summer they are busy at festivals and open airs. The tour for their album “Start Over”, which was released last October, will also follow in autumn. Musically, the new album picks up where the band from Graubünden stopped in 2017 after their Ski World Cup hit “Empire”, but it is probably their most personal work to date. “Start Over” is a comeback and a new start at the same time.
So songs like the new “Karaoke Girl”, Simri’s “Low on air” and “I Love Lady Gaga” follow or Joe with “Planet Earth”. Esra and Joe show their skills on their instruments with extensive drum and guitar solos, when after “Number 2” the long-awaited “Up in the sky” finally follows. Finally, everyone turns up again before 77 Bombay Street say goodbye with “Get away”.

A great festival day comes to an end with Rea Garvey as a personal highlight. Quickly home to sleep a few hours so that the third and final day of the festival can continue.
