The big wheel was shining forth aloft high over the city into the grey sky right at the train station. It started to drizzle, so I quickly pulled the hood of my yellow raincoat over my head. Though only to realize that it wasn’t too serious with the rain. Alright! Just had to go straight, my friend told me, so I’d get directly to the central place, where The Souls were going to perform later.
It was my first time at Braderie and this on a Sunday afternoon, when obviously especially families were there and at a time, most were already busy with packing away. I don’t know if I’d go to Braderie, if there wasn’t a band playing, I really wanted to see. Braderie is just one of these drinking festivals. At least that is, what I keep hearing about. So not really something for me. Among the many market stands there was the one or other interesting food stand, but otherwise most seem just to sell junk.
Somehow it wasn’t exactly my day and I even had been thinking about maybe staying at home. The journey to Biel was also pretty annoying as a building side on the train line Bern – Biel was making it complicating. But probably just because of this I decided to go. Provided with burger and fries for dinner, I was listening to the rest of The Souls soundcheck and was quite sure, that my well-being was going to get better during this evening. Also friends and acquaintances joined watching the concert.
Have you seen the very huge backdrop The Souls have with them now? It’s looking great. Besides they always keep surprising us. I had only seen the band two weeks before in Spiez and now the setlist sounded somehow differently again?
Okay, the setlist was probably quite the same then: It included the new songs, I slowly start to know better. My favourite “Live”, where they let the audience sing along and totally rocks, sure can never be missed anyway 😉 And this beautiful cover, with they show how incredibly harmonising their voices are, was also part of their Braderie concert.
And whilst the most were standing loosely on the place listening, some came and others went, other bands joined the audience, they played after about half of the show a new version of “Fighting in the moonlight”. Jay sang most part of the song only accompanied by Luk and Michi on guitar. The rest of the band members joined in again only shortly before the song ended. Whilst some thought it was a little pity, that the counting was missing now, I immediately loved the new version. It’s just beautiful and a lot of fun. At the point when the rest of the band joins in again, is just really cool.
With the theremin solo by Michi it became quite wild and a little crazy. Great that he took out this piece again! In the past he used to have it with him all the time. Well, long before their album “Eyes closed” had been released.
Few more songs followed after, before they also ended their Biel concert with “Run Baby Run”.
Too bad the concert was already over, but by mood and well-being was again so much better. Even my way back home seemed not half as annoying and complicated anymore. Well, that’s the power of music and concert visits (esp. by your favourite bands) ♥
